Awareness around veteran mental health has fallen by the wayside, and Dr. Charles “Charlie” Powell aims to remedy this issue with his forthcoming documentary Healing Heroes-No Mind Left Behind.
Dr. Charlie Powell is a decorated former Naval Lieutenant Commander, a war veteran, and a former owner and Chief Medical Officer of a central medical system in Texas.
While Dr. Powell’s military and medical experience have been foundational in his pursuit to help others, his son has also played a key role. Dr. Powell is the father of a special-needs son, Charlie, who is the inspiration for Saint Charlie Resorts™. In 2024, Dr. Powell founded Solo Vive™, meaning “Just Live,” as the parent company of Saint Charlie Resorts™.
Healing Others Through Reality Documentary
Healing Heroes-No Mind Left Behind is a reality documentary that brings viewers on a journey of rescuing, treating, and returning home healed veterans and first responders who have PTSD in only 10 days. It follows the journeys of six veterans who seek out and face the roots of their trauma head-on. Solo Vive Studios™ produces the documentary, introducing innovative approaches not available in the United States.
Dr. Powell’s passionate projects also include special-needs children and families, as well as individuals who need a louder voice for their health and well-being.
Industry Challenges: The Journey to Helping Others
Dr. Powell began his journey as an engineering student before pivoting to medicine, as he loves problem-solving with humans rather than equations. He also believes in not limiting oneself, so he trained in family medicine, trauma/ER, and cosmetics instead of sticking to just one practice, the industry norm.
In 2016, Dr. Powell stepped away from patient care to build a healthcare system that tackled massive pain points in American medicine. He says he “traded in his stethoscope for a sledgehammer” to break down walls, metaphorically and literally. His career brought him success and the American Dream, but he was miserable. As a result, this led him on a new path.
A Background in Military Service
Dr. Powell spent 16 years in the military, which left him with unseen wounds that were tearing him apart. Since leaving the service in 2005, Dr. Powell spent 18 years trying everything Western Medicine had to offer, including therapies and medicine, but the side effects were worse than his PTSD. Then he heard about a treatment not available in the US and left the country on a search for a cure.
It only took one dose of a medicine that, when combined with underrecognized and undervalued disciplines, delivered Dr. Powell out of his “personal hell.” It also gave him a roadmap for the rest of his life.
Identifying Underrecognized Opportunities Through Solo Vive
Dr. Powell discovered this cure nearly two years ago, and he remains amazed by the progress that has been made since then. Before, he felt like he was “swimming upstream with two anchors around his neck,” and now he can see clearly.
The clarity allowed him to do something revolutionary: rebuild himself from scratch. This introspection led Charlie to found Solo Vive™, a project that identifies underrecognized opportunities, challenges faulty mindsets, and creates solutions with ripple effects.
The steps to healing are universal, and Dr. Powell maps them out in the film Healing Heroes-No Mind Left Behind. His philosophy is that trauma starts early and fast, and most individuals do not have the appropriate tools to deal with it effectively.
Untangling the past is the first step in relieving PTSD, and Dr. Powell is bringing these issues to the forefront in his new documentary. To learn more about Dr. Powell’s work, visit his website for more information.
